I had a tooth extracted yesterday that had been bothering me for a
month. After that I was supposed to eat soft foods but it has been very
hard to find soft foods that are lower in carb. In the end I had more
higher carb foods than I wanted, though options that I used were:
Greek yogurt
Scrambled Eggs
Cream of Chicken Soup (still quite high)
Protein Shake with whey protein
No sugar added ice cream (half melted)
Sugar free pudding
Still this ends up being a bit higher than my normal amounts and I
wasnt' feeling up for making scrambled eggs much, though I feel good
enough for those now. But all the options on the dentist's sheet were
all super high carb (applesauce, pudding, soft serve icecream, milk
shakes, sugar overload anyone?).
The tooth had gone bad under the bridge that it was holding up, which
means that it probably has been having caries issues for years and years
since I never noticed that it was loose except for a 'clicky' feeling
right after having a sip of a cold drink. And I've had that 'clicky
feeling' for years now.
Which is unfortuante, because eating lower carb and limiting how much
sugar I ate really improved my dental health, and I had less cavities.
But in a tooth that already had some decay that was never removed it
just keeps growing and growing, and a lower-sugar diet with xylitol and
such bacteria-targeting sweeteners doesn't help that tooth anymore.
Lesson I learned from this: ask about weird clicky feelings in a crown
or bridge when you drink something cold, because it could be a sign of a
loose part and that could be very bad.
